Mental Steps

Something to take when your mind needs to move.

Mental Steps are guided steps that help your mind get where it needs to be next.

Sometimes that means catching up with where your life already is. Sometimes it means moving toward what comes next.

They can happen inside the MINDBEBOP ecosystem, outside MINDBEBOP, or both.

What Are Mental Steps?

Sometimes your mind is still somewhere else.

At other times, your mind is already here, but you want it to move toward something next.

You may hesitate, loop, freeze, lose momentum, keep replaying something, or simply feel unable to begin.

Mental Steps give you something concrete to take next.

A set of Mental Steps may include:

It does not matter where the step happens.

What matters is whether it helps the navigation continue.

Mental Steps and Mental Navigation

Mental Navigation does not always begin at Point A.

Sometimes your mind is still somewhere else and first needs to catch up with where your life already is.

Mind: Somewhere Else

Mental Steps

Point A: Here / Now

Sometimes arriving at Point A is enough.

At other times, you are already at Point A and want to move toward Point B.

Point A: Here / Now

Mental Steps

Point B: Next

Mental Steps are not the destination.

They are what you take along the way.

Some Steps Help You Catch Up

Your life may already have moved on while your mind is still somewhere else.

Mental Steps can help close that distance.

The meeting is over.
Stop replaying the conversation.
Return to what is in front of you.

Or:

You are home.
Put work down.
Arrive home mentally too.

In these cases, the destination is not somewhere new.

The destination is where your life already is.

Some Steps Help You Move Forward

Once your mind is here, Mental Steps can also help you move toward what comes next.

Point A:
Unable to begin

Mental Steps

Point B:
Making the first small move

The movement may be large.

The next Mental Step does not have to be.

They Do Not Have to Use MINDBEBOP Apps

Some Mental Steps use MINDBEBOP apps.

Open MindZoneOut for 60 seconds.
Return to the current step.
Continue.

Some Mental Steps use ordinary actions.

Stand up.
Walk to the desk.
Open the document.

Others combine both.

MINDBEBOP does not need to be part of every step.

The point is to help your mind keep moving.

MindEntry Holds the Steps

A useful method can still create friction if you have to remember the whole sequence.

MindEntry can hold the Mental Steps for you and show them one at a time.

You do not need to keep the sequence in your head.

You only need to deal with what comes next.

One screen.
One step.
Then the next.

Fixed Mental Steps

Some Mental Steps follow the same route every time.

Open the document.
Write one sentence.
Save the file.

When the same sequence works, a fixed route may be enough.

Stateful Mental Steps

Other Mental Steps can respond to what is happening during the journey.

The destination can stay the same while the route changes.

One destination.
Different routes.

Example: The First Move

You know what needs to be done, but you cannot begin.

Instead of asking you to complete the whole task, Mental Steps can reduce the distance of the next move.

Point B:
Write the report

Next step:
Open the document

The destination can remain large.

The next step does not have to be.

Start With the Moment You Are In

You do not need to understand the whole MINDBEBOP system first.

Start with what is happening now.

Your mind may be:

Then take the Mental Steps that fit that moment.

Where is your mind now?

Where does it need to be?

Take Mental Steps.

What brought you here?

Just a note is enough.
