Adaptive Navigation allows a mental journey to change while it is already in progress.
You can change the next step, the route, the perspective, the tool, or Point B itself without throwing away the entire journey.
A fixed sequence assumes that the route will remain correct from beginning to end.

You may hesitate. You may discover that the next step is too large. You may lose momentum. You may learn something that changes the direction of the journey.
Adaptive Navigation treats those changes as part of the journey rather than as failure.

You do not need to find the perfect route before you begin.
The route can evolve while you are using it.
The next move can become smaller, larger, simpler, more concrete, or completely different.

The destination stays. The way there changes.
Sometimes the route is not blocked by the step itself.
It is blocked by the way the step is currently being held in the mind.

Point B can become smaller or larger.
Movement does not have to proceed only from a small goal toward a larger one. It can move in either direction.
The destination can be replaced, redefined, postponed, expanded, narrowed, or returned to later.
Point B is allowed to be a working hypothesis.
Adaptive Navigation does not assume that every journey has one fixed destination.
Point B can become smaller, larger, more concrete, more abstract, or different in direction. Then it can change again.

Point B₂ does not have to be further away than Point B₁.
It may be a smaller move. A broader purpose. A temporary stopping point. A return to something earlier. Or a new destination revealed by the journey itself.
Imagine that the initial destination is:
Finish my tax return.
That Point B may be too large to move toward directly.

The journey moves from a large Point B to several smaller Point Bs, then returns to the larger destination.
This is not a broken plan.
It is the plan adapting to the mind that is actually taking the journey.
Sometimes changing the step is not enough.
The thought surrounding the step may also need to turn.

Thought Rotation does not require you to replace a negative thought with a positive one.
It allows you to turn the thought until another way of holding it becomes visible.
You may rotate it once. You may rotate it again. You may discover that the original thought still contains something useful.
A traditional recipe assumes that the sequence remains correct from beginning to end.
A Stateful Recipe can respond to what is happening during the journey.

Adaptive Navigation can begin when you explicitly say:
I'm Stuck.
It may also become relevant when:
The response is not simply to try harder.
The response is to ask what needs to change.
Reaching the current Point B does not always mean that the entire journey is complete.

You may arrive at a temporary destination and then choose the next Point B.
Finding the missing documents may be an arrival. Opening the filing system may be another arrival. Submitting the return may be the final arrival.
Each arrival can become the beginning of the next movement.
Adaptive Navigation does not exist to make every person complete every task.
Sometimes the right move is to make the step smaller.
Sometimes it is to choose a larger direction.
Sometimes it is to pause.
Sometimes it is to abandon the route.
Sometimes it is to change the destination.
The goal is not obedience to the original plan.
The goal is a journey that can remain responsive to reality.
Over time, Adaptive Navigation can become more than a feature.
It can become a way of responding when movement stops.
