MindBackOut is an ultralight backroom for stepping away from distraction, expectation, and automatic habits

You choose which apps to leave outside. While you’re inside, those apps are blocked.

Version 1.6 adds Recipe Protection for MindEntry recipes, allowing selected apps to remain locked while a protected recipe is running and unlock automatically when the recipe is completed. It also adds a manual End Protection option, improves Backroom recovery, and includes stability improvements and fixes.

What It Is

Not productivity. Not a timer hack. Not a self-control game.

A simple boundary: leave selected apps outside and step into a quiet space where nothing is required.

How It Works

  • Select the apps you want to leave outside.
  • Choose a Backroom mode, duration, or Recipe Protection flow.
  • Enter the Backroom or start a protected MindEntry recipe.
  • Return when the session ends, The First Move is completed, or the protected recipe is complete.

MindBackOut uses Apple’s Screen Time controls on-device. MINDBEBOP does not collect or transmit your data.

Presets

Save your preferred Backroom configurations as reusable Presets.

Each Preset stores:

  • Selected apps to lock
  • Session duration
  • Zone Cooldown on or off

This makes it easy to return to the same boundary setup with a single tap.

First Move Unlock

Some distractions are not the problem. Avoiding the first step is.

With First Move Unlock, selected apps remain locked until you complete The First Move (CogniHack recipe) in MindEntry.

The goal is not productivity. The goal is simply to help you move from avoidance to action by taking one small concrete step.

Unlock happens after The First Move is completed in MindEntry.

Recipe Protection

Compatible MindEntry recipes can be protected with MindBackOut.

When a protected recipe starts, selected apps remain unavailable while the recipe is running.

When the recipe is completed, those apps unlock automatically.

If a recipe is abandoned or unfinished, you can manually end protection from MindBackOut.

Recipe Protection is designed to protect the sequence until it is complete — not to turn MindBackOut into a productivity or task management app.

MindEntry Integration

MindBackOut can work together with MindEntry when stepping away is not enough.

Instead of immediately returning to blocked apps, you can move directly into a structured first-action workflow before unlocking.

This is optional. MindBackOut continues to work as a standalone backroom.

Common Uses

  • Stop automatic reopening of high-frequency apps.
  • Create a clean break before returning to work or messages.
  • Leave social apps outside for a short reset.
  • Drop a reminder at the door (send text to MindShoutOut) before entering.
  • Release active residue with MindEaseOut before entering.
  • Keep distracting apps locked until you complete The First Move in MindEntry.
  • Create a boundary between avoidance and action without relying on willpower alone.
  • Keep selected apps locked until a protected MindEntry recipe is completed.

Release Residue (MindEaseOut)

If something still feels active before you enter, you can release it first.

MindEaseOut is an on-device release mode built into MINDBEBOP apps — a quiet passage for setting a thought aside without deleting or analyzing it.

Leave It at the Door (MindShoutOut)

If something is too important to forget but you don’t want to carry it inside, write it down at the door.

MindBackOut can send that text to MindShoutOut as a local reminder — on-device only.

Zone Cooldown (Optional)

If you feel pressure right after leaving the backroom, enable Zone Cooldown.

When enabled, MindBackOut sends you directly into a MindZoneOut Zone session in None mode after exit — so you can cool down before returning to everything.

You choose when to exit the Zone.
